Steps one to four are automated and run daily. Five and six involve people.
We track the retailers worth buying from and collect what each one charges for a product, refreshed every day. Many send us their prices directly, which is quicker and more accurate than reading them off a page.
The same product appears under different titles at different retailers. We match by identifier first, then by attributes, so one product is one page with several offers rather than nine near-duplicate pages.
Every offer link has to open the product's own page, ready to add to a basket. Links that land on a search results page or a category listing are dropped, because a click that ends in a search box wastes your time and the retailer's money.
Retailers send a price and, in most cases, a total for the offer. We sort on the total they state. Where a retailer sends no total we sort on the price they did send, and we never add a delivery charge of our own invention to make the numbers line up.
We don't sell anything and never take your payment details. Every buy button hands you to the retailer, where you check out on their site under their delivery, returns and warranty terms.
Feeds are fetched daily. If something is wrong anyway, report it and we will have it corrected within the hour.
The signals that decide position, in rough order of weight.
The total the retailer states for the offer, cheapest first. This is the default sort because it is the number that answers the question you are actually asking.
Every offer link has to open the retailer's own product page. Offers whose links land on a search page or a category listing are dropped before the page is built.
Used and out-of-stock offers stay in the list but sink, and can never take a "best deal" badge from a new, in-stock offer.
Retailers pay us to appear on PriceReviews. Some pay per click, when you click through to them. Others pay a commission when you buy. You pay nothing extra either way, the price is the same as going to the retailer directly, and there is no version of PriceReviews that costs you money.
What a retailer pays has an obvious potential to influence where their offer appears, so we remove it structurally rather than promising not to: offers are ordered by the price the retailer gives us, computed automatically, with no step in which a payment could be taken into account. It has no bearing on our judgement about an offer either.
What it does not buy is a position, a badge or a kinder description. We explain what else we refuse to sell on the transparency page.
No, deliberately. We list what we consider worth buying for a specific need, and we only build a comparison page where several retailers actually stock the product. A page with one offer isn't a comparison, so we don't dress it up as one.
Tell us and we will fix it in under an hour. Send the page address and what you saw at the retailer. A wrong price is the fastest thing for us to verify and the most damaging to leave, so it goes to the front of the queue.
Retailer feeds are fetched daily. Retailers change prices whenever they like, including between our refresh and your click, so the retailer's price at checkout is always the one that applies. If you spot a persistent gap, tell us: it usually means a feed problem we can fix at source.
Either we don't track them yet, or we do and they don't stock that particular product, or their link for it didn't open a real product page so we left the offer out. We cover the retailers we can get reliable prices from, which is not yet every retailer in the market.
Either nobody we track sells it, or too few of them do for a comparison to be meaningful. A page with one offer is not a comparison, so we don't dress it up as one.
